How a project runs
From the first site walk to opening day
Five steps, and you can join at any of them. If your equipment is already bought, we start at installation.

Site assessment
We walk the space with you: its size, access for equipment, what’s there now, who will play on it and the safety requirements that come with that.

Design and 3D renderings
Design recommendations and 3D renderings, so a board, a pastor or a daycare director can see the playground before anyone signs.

Budget
We plan the budget with you, line by line, and work with your architect, construction manager or engineer when the playground is part of a bigger project.

Installation
Site work, footings, assembly and the surfacing underneath, built to the manufacturer’s drawings and checked against ASTM F1487.

Maintenance plan
A plan for upkeep with an annual inspection built in, so the playground stays the way it was on opening day.

Answers
Questions we hear before the first site visit
How much does a commercial playground cost?
It comes down to three things — the equipment, the surfacing its fall height calls for, and the site work — so we quote every playground free after seeing the space. The footprint is bigger than the structure: public equipment needs a surfaced use zone at least 6 feet wide on every side.
How long does commercial playground equipment last?
Longest when it’s installed to spec and looked after. Loose hardware, worn swing hangers and surfacing that has thinned out are what shorten a playground’s life, and the manufacturer’s warranty sheet is the best guide for each part. A yearly inspection catches the wear before it turns into a replacement.
What’s the difference between commercial and residential playground equipment?
Commercial equipment is built to ASTM F1487, the standard for public playgrounds, while backyard sets follow the home-use standard, ASTM F1148. Public structures carry heavier posts and hardware, need clear use zones around them, and sit on surfacing tested for their fall height.
Is Action Playgrounds licensed?
Yes. Action Playgrounds, Inc. holds Tennessee contractor license #83068, and co-owner Johnathon Vaughn is a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI), the playground safety credential issued through the National Recreation and Park Association. The license comes from the Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors, and the two co-owners oversee each project themselves.
